Campbell Lake

Graduate students of the Limnological Research Center at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities present a collaborative research project on Campbell Lake, near the city of Detroit Lakes in west-central Minnesota. A phone call from a lake resident during a grad student meeting in March of 2001 led to a trip to the lake to collect sediment cores, and subsequent analysis of lake sediments from the last ~300 years. Our goal was to characterize the biological and geochemical response of the lake system to a known series of events, and to compare that response to standard paleolimnological models.

We wrote a proposal to the Department of Geology and Geophysics in April 2001 requesting funds to support the coring trip and initial lab analyses. The proposal was fully funded.

We presented our findings to date as a poster at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall 2001 Meeting in San Francisco in December. (Note: this is a 3.75-meg pdf file.)
